Science Visit to 3M

3M Customer Engagement Centre invited a group of S2 pupils and staff to visit their office in Altens. There we were given and introduction to 3M, the company, how it was founded and the range of products they now produce. There were lots of interactive sessions, with a few of their products and how they can be used in industry, including Glass Bubbles used for drilling fluids, cement slurries, buoyancy, insulation and light weighting of vehicles.

All the time the importance of problem solving and persistence in addressing and overcoming obstacles were revisited.

The highlight of the trip was the Virtual Reality fall arrest training set. The students used the VR, put on a VR safety harness and then walked across the skyscraper. They had the choice to walk off and the harness would stop the fall.
