We took a great interest in the life of child refugees and we decided to spend time researching and learning as much about this issue as possible. As part of this process, we got to spend an afternoon with Amal, a refugee and member of the Glasgow Girls. In preparation for her visit we watched the movie Glasgow Girls which was based on Amal’s life and told the story of how she and her friends helped stop people from being deported and returned to their home countries when it wasn’t safe for them.
The afternoon with Amal was an eye opening experience for us all. Amal had not only moved to this country as a child refugee but as an adult she has spent time in Greece volunteering and helping families who have arrived from Syria. Amal shared her shocking stories and pictures from this trip with the pupils.
