Grampian Children’s Book Award
This is the tenth year that Torry Academy has been involved in Grampian Children’s Book Award. 1B1 participated in this book award which is voted for solely by pupils in S1-S3 in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray, so each pupil’s vote counts. Pupils read the six shortlisted books, voted for their favourite book, and had the opportunity to enter two competitions – to draw a poster and write a book review of their favourite book. T
he top three chosen entries for each competition from across the North East would be presented with a prize.
The awards ceremony was held at the Arts Lecture Theatre, Aberdeen University on Wednesday 10th May with around 400 pupils, teachers and librarians from Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray present. Three of the short listed authors, Lisa Williamson, Alan Gibbons and James Clammer were present and they talked about writing and their books and where they get inspiration from.
We were delighted to have a competition winner, Elma, who won third prize in the poster competition, and the winning book on the day was “One” by Sarah Crossan. The pupils in 1B1 were an absolute credit to the school on the day and a fantastic time was had by all!
